A shooting at a rave in the Swiss town of Aarau left one person dead and five others injured, some seriously, in the early hours of Sunday, according to Aargau cantonal police.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. at an event attended by approximately 3,500 people. Witnesses reported initially mistaking gunfire for fireworks.

Aarau lies roughly 40 kilometers west of Zurich.

A video released by Swiss newspaper “Blick” reportedly captured around ten shots near the scene.

Cantonal police stated that motives and exact circumstances remain under investigation. Authorities have not released information about potential suspects.

Police are conducting a large-scale operation, confirmed to Swiss news agency Keystone-SDA. At approximately 7 a.m., police spokesperson Pascal Wenzel described the situation as “special” and urged the public to avoid the area.

According to Swiss emergency news outlet BRK News, a military Super Puma helicopter has been deployed over the wider Aarau region. Flight tracking data shows the aircraft making multiple passes over the town, though its specific role remains unclear.
