Nearly two decades into his career, Taeyang continues to reach new milestones.
The BIGBANG vocalist and accomplished soloist has achieved his highest-selling debut week yet with the album QUINTESSENCE, which moved 56,985 physical copies worldwide in its first week, according to the real-time sales chart Hanteo. This figure more than doubles his previous personal best for a solo album’s opening week.
The strong performance was driven by a record-setting first day, with QUINTESSENCE selling 26,657 copies on release day. This also set a new career high for Taeyang, surpassing the nearly 11,300 copies sold on the first day of his 2023 EP Down to Earth. To date, his solo discography has surpassed 220,000 total copies sold, per Hanteo data.

Taeyang’s Monumental 2026 Extends to BIGBANG
The album’s release comes during a period of significant visibility for the artist. Earlier this year, Taeyang reunited with BIGBANG members G-Dragon and Daesung for a celebrated Coachella performance, where they performed classic hits alongside solo tracks—including Taeyang’s 2013 single “Ringa Linga” and his 2014 collaboration with G-Dragon, “Good Boy.” He also used the Coachella platform to preview QUINTESSENCE, building early anticipation.
In the subsequent weeks, he continued to generate buzz with a preview event at the Grammy Museum and a dedicated listening session in Korea prior to the album’s release.
On QUINTESSENCE, Taeyang maintains his influential presence in the K-pop landscape. The record features Australian-Korean artist The Kid LAROI on the high-energy track “OPEN UP,” while ALLDAY PROJECT members Woochan and Tarzzan appear on the standout emo-hip-hop song “WOULD YOU.” The lead single “LIVE FAST DIE SLOW” reunites him with longtime collaborator Teddy, a recent Grammy and Academy Award winner. Other contributors include K-Pop Demon Hunters creatives KUSH and Dominsuk, alongside alternative pop producer Lil Aaron (known for work with Kim Petras and Demi Lovato). Additional writing and production credits include IDO, the Stereotypes, Vince, August Rigo, Paul Blanco, Theron Thomas, Dr. Luke, and more.
Looking ahead, Taeyang and BIGBANG are preparing for the group’s 20th anniversary in August, with members hinting at major surprises, including a forthcoming world tour.
“We got some biiiiig things coming soon,” G-Dragon told the Coachella crowd during Weekend 1, later adding on Weekend 2 that the upcoming tour is “going to be crazy, no doubt…do not miss out and stay tuned.” Taeyang likewise told Weekend 1 attendees, “We hope you look forward to everything coming up for BIGBANG and my new solo album.”
If the record-breaking sales of QUINTESSENCE are any indication, Taeyang’s solo achievements may only be the prelude to an even larger year for the artist and his group in 2026.
