Taiwan man wins lawsuit but gets jailed for using robot vacuum to record wife’s affair

A Taiwanese man who employed a robotic vacuum cleaner to obtain incriminating recordings of his spouse was awarded a civil judgment but later received a prison sentence for breaching privacy rights.

A recent judicial decision, reported by local outlets, reveals that the individual—who has been kept anonymous—married in 2021. The pair primarily resided with his aging parents and made trips to their holiday residence only during vacations.

During September 2023, while staying at the holiday home, the husband stumbled upon an abandoned toothbrush, which reinforced his doubts about loyalty.

Following a review of park‑garage video footage, the man spotted a stranger who had driven his wife back home earlier that night.

Three months later, utilizing his smartphone app, he triggered the home’s robot vacuum system and intended to employ its integrated microphone to arrange a conversation with his wife.

When the live stream captured his wife engaged in an intimate encounter with a second man, he recorded the entire session amid hopes of establishing a strong case for litigation.
