Takeda (TAK) and the Indonesian Government have announced a strategic collaboration intended to fortify the nation’s plasma ecosystem. This initiative seeks to broaden equitable access to vital plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs) for both domestic and international markets. A significant component of this partnership involves a fractionation license granted to Takeda by the Ministry of Health, signaling Indonesia’s dedication to improving biopharmaceutical manufacturing and national health security.
This multi-year program represents a landmark development for the ASEAN region, focusing on creating sustainable plasma collection methods and large-scale manufacturing for PDMPs. Through this vision, Indonesia is positioned to become a regional center for plasma science, advanced collection techniques, and biopharmaceutical innovation.
During the initial phase, Takeda will commit up to $30 million to a two-year pilot program aimed at establishing plasma donation centers throughout Indonesia. These facilities will enable Takeda and the Ministry of Health to assess operational viability and optimize models prior to a nationwide rollout. Utilizing Takeda’s international expertise, these centers will maintain strict adherence to global quality and regulatory standards.
The initiative is anticipated to create specialized employment opportunities, including high-skilled positions for laboratory technicians and healthcare professionals, while fostering workforce development and the transfer of global best practices.
Concurrently, Takeda is investigating the regulatory and feasibility requirements for constructing a cutting-edge manufacturing facility for plasma-derived therapies in Indonesia. Such a facility would address both local and global demand, cementing Indonesia’s role as a significant contributor to the international supply chain for advanced medical technologies.
The inaugural plasma donation center is slated to open in 2027, with all upcoming locations intended for integration into Takeda’s BioLife plasma center network.
