The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Monday that it reclassified an incident in the vicinity of the Sohar anchorage in Oman as an attack after confirming that the tanker was struck by a drone.

Local authorities are assisting with the crew’s evacuation, UKMTO added, noting that the extent of damage and any environmental impact remain unknown at this time.

Indian Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, posted on X/Twitter that a tanker carrying 11 Indian nationals was hit by a drone in the Sohar region of Oman.

“While nine of our Indian crew members have been successfully rescued and are safe, two Indian nationals currently remain missing. Search‑and‑rescue operations are actively underway by the local Coast Guard. We are continuously coordinating with all relevant authorities to fully support the ongoing rescue efforts and ensure every possible action is taken to safely locate our missing personnel,” Sonowal said.
