Tarantino Stuns AFI Fest Audience with Exclusive Preview of ‘The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth’

During the AFI Fest Q&A in Los Angeles, Tarantino captivated the audience by unveiling the first 17 minutes of his sequel to the Oscar-nominated “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” titled “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.”

The follow-up film, scripted by Tarantino and directed by David Fincher, sees Brad Pitt returning to refine his Oscar-winning portrayal of Cliff Booth—the stuntman and sidekick to Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton from the 2019 original.

Netflix is set to release “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth” theatrically on November 25 in Imax, with streaming availability beginning December 23.

“Well, I could talk a little bit about the film, or I could show you the first 17 minutes,” Tarantino remarked at the TCL Chinese Theatre, surprising the audience before the Q&A concluded. As the room fell silent, he rose from his seat to cue the preview.

The moment:

Fast-forwarding from 1969 to 1977, the film’s logline positions Cliff Booth as a noir-esque fixer navigating Hollywood’s moral complexities. As bartending and projectionist work fall by the wayside, Booth resolves crises for the industry’s luminous and morally ambiguous figures alike.

The cast includes Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian.

In an oddity that underscored the project’s evolution, Fincher previously noted that Tarantino’s initial script spanned 230 pages—an “essentially two movies”—requiring a 60-page trims to reach its 2.5-hour runtime.

During the event, Tarantino also teased “The Popinjay Cavalier,” his forthcoming West End play starring Sacha Baron Cohen, scheduled to open March 18, 2026, following previews beginning February 23.
