Left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal is still acclimating to his new role with the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
The 29-year-old was acquired by Los Angeles from the Detroit Tigers just one day before the Major League Baseball trade deadline on August 3.
Skubal is now navigating an entirely new environment, playing for a different team in a different league.
And this is no ordinary franchise; it is the formidable Los Angeles Dodgers.
In exchange for Skubal, the Tigers received outfield prospect Zyhir Hope, as well as right-handed pitching prospects Brady Smith and River Ryan.

Following the trade, MLB Pipeline ranked Hope as the Tigers’ No. 2 prospect, Ryan at No. 4, and Smith at No. 10.
Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 240 pounds, Skubal is a remarkably strong and athletic presence on the mound.
He captured consecutive Cy Young Awards with the Tigers in 2024 and 2025, earning American League All-Star selections in both of those seasons.
Skubal is an elite run-preventer. The Dodgers are incredibly fortunate to have a pitcher of his caliber as they pursue another World Series championship.
Having spent parts of seven seasons in Detroit, Skubal is currently playing under the one-year, $32 million contract he originally signed with the Tigers.
He departed Detroit with a 61-42 record, a 3.04 ERA, and a 1.01 WHIP across 150 starts and 863.1 innings pitched.
Skubal is slated to become a free agent following the conclusion of the 2026 World Series, unless the Dodgers choose to offer him a contract extension.
His future may also be influenced by ongoing collective bargaining agreement negotiations between Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association.
If the two sides reach an impasse in their negotiations, MLB owners could potentially lock out the players, leaving the upcoming season in limbo until a new agreement is reached.
Such a scenario could stall any potential contract extension discussions for Skubal.

Tarik Skubal’s First Three Starts with the Dodgers
Since being traded, Skubal has made three starts for his new club.
Following his first outing, Skubal admitted to MLB.com, “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel nerves.” It is a reminder that even the best athletes are human.
He currently holds a 1-2 record, though his performance arguably warrants a better outcome.
Here is a breakdown of his three starts, according to Baseball Reference:
August 4, 2026, at the Chicago Cubs: 6 innings, 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 6 strikeouts, 2 walks, 85 pitches. The Dodgers lost 5-1, resulting in a loss for Skubal.
August 10, 2026, at home against the Kansas City Royals: 5 innings, 4 hits, 3 earned runs, 6 strikeouts, 1 walk, 95 pitches. The Dodgers won 6-5, earning Skubal the victory.
August 16, 2026, at home against the Milwaukee Brewers: 6 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 7 strikeouts, 2 walks, 109 pitches. The Dodgers lost 6-2.
Skubal has surrendered two home runs in his three games with the Dodgers. Over the course of the entire season, he has given up 12 home runs across 19 starts.
