Taylor Swift Named First Recipient of MTV VMA Artist Director Honors

Taylor Swift will receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors at the 2026 Video Music Awards on September 27.

MTV announced the new award and its first recipient Monday, saying the honor recognizes “a sustained and influential body of work from artists who have pushed creative boundaries and developed a clear directorial voice.”

Swift has received eight Best Direction nominations at the VMAs and has won four Moon Persons in the category for “The Man,” All Too Well: The Short Film, “Anti-Hero,” and “Fortnight.” She is nominated again this year for “Opalite.” Her four Best Direction wins are the most in the category, surpassing David Fincher’s three.

The singer has earned nine nominations at the 2026 MTV VMAs, including Artist of the Year. The video for her Life of a Showgirl single “The Fate of Ophelia” is also nominated for Video of the Year, Best Pop, and several creative awards.

The Snoop Dogg-hosted ceremony will air live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 27 on CBS, MTV, and Paramount+. Madonna, Lisa, RAYE, and Shaboozey are among the confirmed performers, while Nirvana will receive the Video Vanguard Award.
