Taylor Swift’s Unveil Grand NYC Celebrations Amidst Closed Ramparts and Star-Studded Preparations: Peeking Through the Secrecy
The short answer is unclear. City officials confirmed to BBC that a street closure permit was filed near an arena for Independence Day weekend, between July 2 and 4, as per a filing by Dora Pekec, a spokesperson for the New York City mayor’s office, who added the permit originated in early June.
The New York Times (NYT) first reported on this, noting several Kansas City Chiefs football team members reportedly stayed at nearby hotels. Prior to the NYT’s likely confirmation, TMZ and other outlets speculated that Madison Square Garden, a 22,000-seat venue typically hosting concerts and Knicks games, would serve as an event site.
Though the New York Times doesn’t state outright that the event is a wedding, it claims this will be a celebration that might relate to the couple’s nuptials. NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that staff would deploy a police force for the occasion, but did not offer any specific particulars. When questioned about a prior terror plot targeting a Taylor Swift concert in Europe, Tisch explained that the New York Police Department’s intelligence and counter-terrorism departments had assessed the event despite no overall details being shared.
“We will ensure appropriate resources based on their assessments for this particular private event, as we do for all the biggest events,” Tisch said.
CBS News reported Tuesday that the couple arranged a rehearsal dinner for approximately 100 people at the Infosys Theatre within the complex on Tuesday. A much grander event, possibly drawing up to 1,000 attendees, is reportedly planned for Friday night through Saturday morning.
The event will feature performers and a large-scale set being constructed inside the venue, CBS News revealed on Wednesday. Crews were seen unloading faux greenery and boxes bearing labels such as “branches,” along with food shipments—one even containing lobsters.
