Team Liquid Secures Top-Two Seed in LCS Summer Split After Dominant Sweep

Team Liquid quickly corrected course this weekend, ensuring a single loss did not derail their momentum.

Just one week after suffering their first defeat of the League Championship Series Summer Split, Liquid secured a decisive sweep over Dignitas on Saturday. The victory concludes their regular season and guarantees them a critical top-two seed in the standings.

In the day’s other contest, Cloud9 earned a victory to climb into third place with only one day remaining in the regular season schedule.

The LCS Summer Split features eight teams in a competition that launched July 25 and culminates in the finals this October. The seven-week round-robin stage—consisting of best-of-three matches—determines the six teams that will advance to the playoffs.

The regular season’s top two finishers earn a direct path to the playoff semifinals, while those finishing third through sixth must compete in the quarterfinals. The bottom two teams are eliminated from contention.

Scheduled from September 12 to October 4, the playoffs will utilize a double-elimination, best-of-five format. The top three remaining teams will qualify for the World Championship, held across New York, Los Angeles, and Allen, Texas, from October 15 through November 14.

Following a loss to LYON last Sunday that left both teams tied at 5-1, Liquid asserted their dominance against Dignitas, winning the first map on blue and the second on red in 25 and 29 minutes, respectively. South Korea’s Lim “Quid” Hyeon-seung excelled with a 13/1/13 KDA, while Argentina’s Brandon Joel “Josedeodo” Villegas posted a flawless 12/0/16. Joshua “Dardoch” Hartnett finished with a 2/8/2 in the loss.

Cloud9’s path was slightly more challenging, but they similarly achieved a sweep over Sentinels, winning both maps on blue in 27 and 33 minutes. South Korea’s Lee “Loki” Sang-min led the way with an 11/2/13 performance, while his counterpart, Cho “Rahel” Min-seong, finished 8/7/7.

LYON now has the opportunity to finish the regular season 6-1 and clinch a semifinal berth when they face Disguised on Sunday. Meanwhile, Shopify Rebellion and FlyQuest will battle for positioning in the other scheduled match.
