Earlier this month, reports surfaced regarding a youth football camp allegedly featuring Tetairoa McMillan that ultimately failed to take place. It became apparent that the organizing company, FlexWorks Sports Management, mishandled the event logistics. During his first 2026 training camp media session on Friday, McMillan addressed the situation directly.

“I don’t want anyone to think that I don’t care about kids,” McMillan told reporters. “I love working with them; they are the next generation, and I try to give back whenever possible. But I honestly don’t know how that happened. I never committed to that event. I look forward to seeing all the kids who expected me to be there, whether at a game or a practice, so I can make it up to them.”

When asked how such a massive miscommunication occurred, McMillan responded, “I have no idea. I wish I knew.”

While it was initially suggested that McMillan might offer game tickets to the disappointed participants, his intentions remain focused on general community engagement. “There are always many people waiting for us before or after practice,” McMillan noted. “I just want them to stop by or come to a game. I want to fill Bank of America Stadium and do whatever I can to give back.”

The incident has raised questions regarding brand management, as the error by FlexWorks Sports Management placed McMillan in a position where he had to defend his reputation against a mistake he did not commit. Despite his valid explanation, the fact that an external organizer misled young fans and their families may lead to further scrutiny regarding the company’s professionalism.
