Wyatt Langford delivered the decisive hit, singling in the winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Texas Rangers secured a 7-6 walk-off victory over the Los Angeles Angels in Arlington, moving into first place in the American League West on Thursday night.
Langford, who was activated from the injured list earlier in the day after missing time with a hamstring strain, connected with a 1-1 fastball from Angels reliever Kirby Yates (0-4) and drove it over the head of left fielder Jose Siri to score Alejandro Osuna, who had opened the inning with a single and later advanced on a sacrifice bunt.
The clutch hit marked Langford’s fourth career walk-off base hit.
Brandon Nimmo contributed significantly with a two-run home run and two runs scored, while Justin Foscue added a homer and a double that drove in two RBIs. Ezequiel Duran also delivered a two-run homer in the third inning, matching Nimmo’s power display.
In relief, Cole Winn earned the win after entering a bases-loaded jam in the ninth and recording the final out. Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi struck out 10 batters over six-plus innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks.
For the Angels, Nolan Schanuel went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored, while Wade Meckler added two hits, two runs, and an RBI. Los Angeles fell to 8-9 in its last nine games, extending its recent struggles.
The Rangers erupted early, tagging Angels starter Reid Detmers for three straight two-out hits in the first inning to build a 2-0 lead. Nimmo’s ninth home run, a 394-foot drive to left-center, kicked off the rally, followed by a double from Josh Jung and a sacrifice fly from Jake Burger.
The Angels cut the lead to 2-1 in the third inning on a Mike Trout RBI groundout, but Texas responded immediately with two runs in the bottom half. After Nimmo’s single and stolen base, Duran launched an 419-foot homer just beyond Trout’s leaping grab in center field to extend the advantage.
Foscue powered a five-run surge in the fourth inning with his seventh home run, and later added an RBI double in the sixth to make it 6-1. Detmers, who struck out six and walked one over four innings, was pulled after allowing five runs on seven hits.
The Angels mounted a dramatic comeback in the seventh, sending 10 batters to the plate to tie the game at 6. Jo Adell’s pinch-hit single narrowed the gap after Schanuel’s bases-loaded single brought in two runs. Meckler and Jorge Soler followed with RBI singles, slicing through the Texas bullpen.
Despite the rally, the Rangers’ late-inning heroics secured the win and the top spot in the AL West.
