Thai Authorities Examine Safety Failures After Fatal Bangkok Bar Blaze

Early findings indicate the fire originated from an electrical fault in an air conditioning unit, causing a rapid loss of power across the establishment.

Nonetheless, prior patrons recount that the venue was poorly lit even under normal conditions. Phatsara Khamloet, who attended in May, informed BBC Thai that reaching the restroom required traversing a convoluted path, and she observed inadequate exit signage.

Busakorn Saensuk, a fire safety specialist at the Engineering Institute of Thailand who examined the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao site post-incident, reported that the door adjacent to the toilets was secured shut, and the two entrance doors were partly blocked by furnishings and debris.

According to Busakorn, patrons naturally fled the flames toward the rear restroom area.

Upon reaching the back, however, escape was impossible.

She adds that illuminated emergency signs would have revealed the locked door, potentially allowing patrons to open it.

Busakorn further observed that the stage featured highly combustible decorations, including plastic flora, and the ceiling was coated with flammable foam panels.

Survivors recount the stage igniting almost instantaneously. The Thai indie group Thotsakan, performing at the time, suffered the loss of two members in the disaster.
