Have you ever desired an electric bike that seamlessly transitions from urban commuting to off-road adventures? The Amflow TL Carbon e-bike, marketed as an “eSUV,” aims to fulfill this role with its all-terrain tires, suspension system, and practical accessories like fenders and racks.
I tested the TL Carbon during a month-long trial in Amsterdam, including a three-day bikepacking trip along coastal routes and single-track trails. My findings reveal both strengths and compromises for the €3499/$3,899 price point.
During my 170km test ride from Amsterdam to Texel, the TL Carbon’s 125Nm Avinox M2 motor conquered steep hills and technical terrain, even with a full touring load. The 800Wh battery delivered exceptional range, with 22% remaining after an 82.3km day of mixed-surface riding.
Despite its trail prowess, the TL Carbon compromises city usability. Its 27.5-inch wheels struggle on pavement, and non-removable accessories add weight. The knobby tires increase rolling resistance and puncture risk, while the lack of a chain guard creates practical issues for urban riders.
The TL Carbon excels as a weekend trail machine but faces challenges in daily urban use. While it offers genuine off-road capability and hauling versatility, its design prioritizes trail performance over commuter practicality—a trade-off that defines its niche appeal.
