Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II” has been delayed again, with the film now scheduled to premiere on February 18, 2028—nearly six years after the March 2022 release of the original. The update was shared via Vimeo alongside the first camera test footage featuring Robert Pattinson reprising his role as the Dark Knight.
The sequel’s cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch. Reeves co-wrote the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin, though specific plot details and character roles remain undisclosed.
Originally slated for October 2026, the film was first pushed to October 1, 2027, before its latest date. DC Studios co-chief James Gunn previously justified the delay, citing industry norms for major sequels: “5-year gaps or more are common—’Alien’ and ‘Aliens,’ ‘Incredibles,’ ‘Terminator 2,’ ‘Avatar,’ ‘Top Gun,’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ all followed similar timelines.”
Warner Bros. has adjusted other projects as well. J.J. Abrams’ untitled film “The Great Beyond,” starring Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega, moves to October 1, 2027. Sam Esmail’s “Panic Carefully,” with Julia Roberts, is now set for April 9, 2027, while “Revenge of La Llorona” will occupy the February 26 slot. Abrams’ project is described as a “four-quadrant, all-audience spectacle” and will feature an IMAX 70mm rollout, enabled by the extended timeline.
