Tammy Beaumont starred as The Blaze produced a commanding performance to claim their first Women’s T20 Blast title, defeating Durham by 10 wickets at The Oval.
The 35-year-old, who recently retired from international cricket with England earlier this summer, contributed 54 runs as part of an unbroken opening partnership of 118 with Sarah Bryce, who posthumously reached her first half-century of the tournament, remaining not out on 53.
Following their victory over Surrey in the opening semi-final, Kirstie Gordon’s side maintained their dominance against a Durham team that had previously upset Hampshire Hawks in the last four.
After being asked to bat first, Durham lost captain Hollie Armitage to left-arm bowler Grace Ballinger’s fourth delivery, and struggled to adapt to The Blaze’s strategic use of slower deliveries on a low-scoring surface.
Australian all-rounder Heather Graham supported the innings with 30 runs from 23 balls, but her dismissal proved pivotal as Durham compiled 117-8, falling short of their typical competitive total.
Tournament-leading wicket-taker Charli Knott accounted for 2/25, while Kirstie Gordon added 3/21. Despite some fielding lapses, including five drops, The Blaze’s bowlers maintained pressure.
Starting their chase under ideal conditions, Lauren Filer delivered two wides from her first three overs, allowing Beaumont and Bryce to pursue victory without significant challenge.
