The Spaghetti Western Tarantino Called ‘The Best-Directed Movie of All Time’ Is Dominating Global Streaming Charts

Taylor Sheridan’s contributions have helped revive the Western genre, introducing a new generation to classics like spaghetti Westerns. These Italian-produced films were distinctively stylish and raw compared to their American counterparts. Sergio Leone, widely regarded as the master of the form, directed a groundbreaking trilogy starring Clint Eastwood.

The trilogy’s most celebrated entry is now available on multiple streaming services, including Prime Video, MGM, and Tubi. Released in 1966, it remains the genre’s gold standard decades later. Quentin Tarantino has called it “the best-directed film of all time” and “the greatest achievement in the history of cinema,” citing it as an influence dating back to Reservoir Dogs. Stephen King also drew inspiration from the film for his magnum opus, The Dark Tower series.

The Film That Defined a Genre Is Streaming Now

The film in question is The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, the centerpiece of Leone’s Dollars Trilogy alongside For a Few Dollars More and A Fistful of Dollars. It holds a Certified Fresh 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes, where critics praise it as arguably the greatest spaghetti Western, noting its compelling story, memorable performances, breathtaking landscapes, and haunting score.

Featuring standout performances from Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef, the film boasts a legendary score by Ennio Morricone. Tarantino, who typically avoids traditional scores, made an exception for his own spaghetti Western-inspired thriller The Hateful Eight, enlisting Morricone to compose its music.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is currently available for free on Tubi, alongside a wide selection of westerns including A Fistful of Dollars and John Wayne classics such as The Alamo and Red River. On MGM, the film is climbing global charts, recently reaching number 15.
