They Are Gutting a Body of Water Prep Huge Mixtape and Drop Three Songs

Philadelphia shoegaze band They Are Gutting a Body of Water has unveiled a sprawling 29‑track mixtape titled Kool Faith / Loosies II, featuring an impressive roster of guest collaborators. The project will be released digitally on October 16 and on physical formats on November 20 via ATO/Julia’s War. Among the featured artists are Spirit of the Beehive, Hotline TNT, RXK Nephew, and dozens more. Three new songs—“Kool Marder” featuring Cashier, “The Rook,” and “Free Willy”—are now available, with the full tracklist forthcoming.

Kool Faith / Loosies II brings together an eclectic mix of DIY shoegaze rockers, labelmates from Julia’s War, and other artists in the band’s orbit, including Greg Mendez, Horse Jumper of Love, FearDorian, Full Body 2, LUCY (Cooper B. Handy), Options, Dead Sullivan, Cooking, Hooky, A Country Western, Total Wife, Fib, Scarlet Rae, Toner, Haloplus, Morgan Garrett, and many more.

“The word mixtape initially meant a homespun tape that you typically listened to yourself or gave to somebody else,” said bandleader Doug Dulgarian. “For me who was born later, it meant mashups of all my favorite artists by local DJs. And so that’s what I did with this one, mashups of all my favorite artists. Shoutout DJ WHITEOWL, RIP.”

They Are Gutting a Body of Water released their latest album, Lotto, in October 2024. The band will kick off a headlining U.S. tour next month, running through December.
