Three Carolina Hurricanes Prospects to Watch in the 2026‑27 Season

The Carolina Hurricanes consistently uncover talent in the draft, regardless of round. As the 2026‑27 season approaches, three prospects within the organization deserve close attention from fans.

Bradly Nadeau

Bradly Nadeau is expected to receive heightened attention as the season begins. With Seth Jarvis sidelined for four to six months due to shoulder surgery, Nadeau may earn an extended opportunity.

After the first round of the 2026 NHL Draft, GM Eric Tulsky told the media that Nadeau has performed well in the AHL and has already had two call‑up stints this season, showing clear improvement. He expects Nadeau to be a strong candidate for an early‑season call‑up and views the situation as a valuable runway for his development.

In the 2025‑26 season, Nadeau appeared in 12 Hurricanes games, scoring three goals. He contributed 27 goals and 56 points in 52 AHL games with the Chicago Wolves, and later added seven goals and 17 points in 21 games, helping the team reach the Calder Cup Final.

Depending on training‑camp performance and the four preseason games, Nadeau could spend several months with the Hurricanes, demonstrating his readiness for a full‑time NHL role.

Joel Nyström

After logging 38 NHL games last season because of numerous blue‑line injuries, defenseman Joel Nyström is a player to watch this year. He recorded one goal, 10 points, and a plus‑6 rating, demonstrating his seamless fit when called up.

His strong performance earned him a four‑year, $4.9 million contract on December 12, extending his tenure with the Hurricanes through the 2029‑30 season and guaranteeing $1.225 million per year starting this season.

With the Wolves, he posted one goal and 10 points in 37 games and posted a plus‑9 rating. He is emerging as a potential first call‑up in case of injuries. Currently his status remains uncertain, as unrestricted free agent Mike Reilly is still unsigned and the Hurricanes are negotiating with Alexander Nikishin. Additionally, Juuso Valimaki may serve as the seventh defenseman this season.

Charlie Cerrato

The last prospect to monitor is center Charlie Cerrato. On May 12, the Hurricanes signed him to a three‑year entry‑level contract after two seasons at Penn State, where he recorded 15 goals and 42 points in 38 games as a rookie (2024‑25) and seven goals and 27 points in 23 games during his sophomore year, concluding his college career with 22 goals and 69 points in 61 games.

Prior to Penn State, he played for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL, posting 12 goals and 50 points in 45 games, and he finished the 2023‑24 season second in league points while leading the team in assists (38).

After his college career, Cerrato signed a professional tryout with the Wolves and appeared in a single Calder Cup playoff game without recording a point. This season, he is expected to man the second line for head coach Spiros Anastas, drawing significant attention at training camp and preseason as the 45th overall selection in 2025 appears ready to become part of the Hurricanes’ next core.

While the organization boasts exciting young talent from North America, Europe, and Russia, Nadeau, Nyström, and Cerrato stand out as the prospects to watch closely in the 2026‑27 season.
