Three people, including a foreign national, died on Thursday when a rock spire collapsed in Turkey’s UNESCO‑listed Cappadocia region after a landslide triggered by heavy rain, according to officials.
The region, a major tourist magnet worldwide, is home to cone‑shaped rock formations known as “fairy chimneys,” formed by ancient volcanic activity.
Justice Minister Akin Gürlek said on social media that initial findings indicated two fatalities and five injuries.
