In a world roiled by ongoing conflicts and mounting humanitarian crises, advocates commemorating the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain public attention on the event nearly four decades after the violent suppression of peaceful pro-democracy protests.
