KL Rahul has been ruled out of the South Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy 2026 final against East Zone, set to commence on Sunday, September 6, at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Although Rahul was included in the squad along with Mohammed Siraj and Devdutt Padikkal ahead of the championship match at Chepauk, he will not play in the final. South Zone captain Tilak Varma confirmed the omission during the pre-match press conference on September 5.

“KL bhai isn’t there,” Varma told reporters, emphasizing the absence during the buildup to the summit clash.

Padikkal and Siraj expected in South Zone XI

Siraj and Padikkal are likely to feature in the starting lineup for the final. Padikkal will occupy the No. 3 position, while Ricky Bhui, who opened in the semi-final, will share the crease with N. Jagadeesan at the top.

The final will be held from September 6 to 10 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. Rahul, Siraj, and Padikkal recently contributed to India’s 1-0 Test series victory in Sri Lanka, with Padikkal leading the run charts at 328 runs at an average above 109, including two centuries. Rahul added 135 runs at an average of 45 in the series.

South Zone advanced to the final with a seven-wicket victory over North Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 2. Tilak was named Player of the Match after scoring an unbeaten 116 in the first innings and an unbeaten 51 in the second. Shreyas Gopal also delivered a standout all-round performance.

East Zone reached the final after a dominant innings-and-210-run win over North East Zone in the quarter-finals, followed by a four-wicket triumph against Central Zone in the semi-finals. Shahbaz Ahmed was named Player of the Match in the quarters, while Mukesh Kumar earned the same honour in the semis.
