Tim Bradley Reassesses Confidence Ahead of Zepeda vs. Roach Bout

كردـةـndan Tim Bradley continues to view Lamont Roach Jr. as a strong contender, but his confidence has diminished after a detailed review of William Zepeda’s attributes leading up to Friday’s vacant WBC lightweight title clash in Las Vegas.

While Bradley initially favored Roach, a deeper analysis of the matchup raised doubts about the former WBA super‑featherweight champion’s ability to keep Zepeda’s relentless pressure in check.

“I said Roach, but I’m not confident in my pick at all,” Bradley said on his Into the Storm show.

Bradley’s primary concern revolves around volume. Roach typically exercises selective aggression, whereas Zepeda throws nearly twice as many punches. He questions whether judges will reward precision over sustained activity if Zepeda establishes tempo from the opening bell.

“You got one guy that’s very choosy and the other guy, he doesn’t give a damn. He’s just letting hisPET hands go,” Bradley said. “Wherever they land, wherever they fall, he has them in your grill all night.”

Roach’s sole defeat – a southpaw‑led loss to Jamel Herring, who leveraged size and work rate for a unanimous decision – also caught Bradley’s eye. The analyst sees parallels between Herring’s performance and the aggressive style Zepeda brings to the ring.

“The only loss on his résumé [came] to a southpaw,” Bradley said. “Herring outworked him.”

While history can repeat itself, Roach remains one of boxing’s finest technicians, capable of frustrating aggressive opponents. His solid defense offers a credible path to victory if he can disrupt Zepeda’s rhythm.

The key question is whether Roach can build a sufficient lead on the scorecards before Zepeda’s pressure mounts.

“It’s like you have a machine in front of you,” Bradley said. “You’re going to need a knockout, or you’re going to have to hurt this man really, really bad.”
