The disciplinary action stems from an incident during the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad this past Sunday. According to an official IPL media release, the confrontation took place during the 10th over of the Gujarat Titans’ innings. Following a controversial decision where Jordan Cox was ruled not out after a catch by Washington Sundar, David aggressively threw an ice bag toward umpire Nitin Menon.
As a result, David has been found in violation of Article 2.9 of the IPL Code of Conduct. This specific regulation prohibits the act of throwing a ball or any other piece of cricket equipment—including water bottles—at or near a player, team official, umpire, match referee, or any other individual in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during a match.
