Tom Morello recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to showcase his powerful track “Soldier in the Army of Love.” The legendary Rage Against the Machine frontman was originally slated to perform during the late-night show’s Brooklyn week alongside Bruce Springsteen, but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.
Stepping up to the plate, Morello was joined on stage by his son, Roman Morello, along with a group of talented backup singers. The younger Morello put on a spectacular display of guitar prowess, executing impressive solos behind his head. The dynamic duo capped off the performance by raising their fists triumphantly to the sky.
“Soldier in the Army of Love” is featured on Morello’s newly released LP, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, which dropped last week via Mom + Pop Music. The album boasts production by Tyler Smyth, Carl Restivo, Zakk Cervini, Dan Carey, and Sam Nelson Harris, and features high-profile guest appearances from Serj Tankian, Kneecap, Beartooth, and of course, Roman.
Morello’s highly anticipated Power to the People Festival is scheduled for October 3rd at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. The event boasts an incredible lineup, with Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, Foo Fighters, Joan Baez, Public Enemy, Killer Mike, Brittany Howard, Dropkick Murphys, Jack Black, Serj Tankian, Grandson, the Neighborhood Kids, Taylor Momsen, Matt Cameron, the Linda Lindas, and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels all confirmed to perform. Additionally, artist Shepard Fairey is set to deliver a special DJ set.
“The Power to the People festival is about freedom, justice, equality, and rock & roll,” Morello shared in a statement. “It’s about the power everyday human beings have when they come together through music, art, community, and action. We’re honored to bring this incredible lineup to the DC area for a day that celebrates the spirit of activism, creativity, and hope.”
Kimmel’s Brooklyn tapings are taking place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House, which has also hosted high-profile guests such as Amy Schumer and Howard Stern.
