Tom Morello has issued an update regarding his mother’s health, confirming that she has rebounded after a recent medical emergency that forced the guitarist to postpone several shows.
Morello had been scheduled to perform at Electric Brixton on Monday (June 15) after appearing at Download 2026 the previous day. A few hours before his set, he announced the cancellation of that gig and also postponed his upcoming concert at Paris’ Bataclan.
In an Instagram story, Morello explained, “I am sorry I had to miss a few shows due to my mom’s health. The incredibly resilient, indefatigable Mary Morello at 102 is now feeling somewhat better and has ordered me back into the fray, charging me with rocking you and fighting fascism six strings at a time.” He indicated plans to resume touring, beginning with Pinkpop in the Netherlands on June 21, followed by additional summer festivals such as Tons Of Rock in Norway and BBK Legends Bilbao in Spain.
Additional news: Morello used his Download 2026 set to address far‑right activist Tommy Robinson. He also recently collaborated with Serj Tankian and Tankian’s son Roman on a new single titled “Adjourn It.” This partnership followed Morello’s announcement of a new Power To The People festival, whose lineup features Tankian, Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters and others. Morello toured with Springsteen on the “Land Of Hope And Dreams” U.S. tour earlier this year, and Springsteen released a live video of his “Purple Rain” cover featuring Morello, recorded in Minneapolis. In a 2024 interview with NME, Morello discussed the essential qualities of protest music, emphasizing that a great protest song must first be a great song, with authenticity and power.
