Following Television guitarist Tom Verlaine’s death in 2023, his vast vinyl collection is being catalogued for sale. Discogs and Academy Records in New York announced that roughly 4,000 records from Verlaine’s personal stash will be made available in phases. A first batch will launch online on June 26, with physical sales at Academy’s Brooklyn location on July 10 and 11. The remainder of the collection will be listed on Discogs starting July 31.
The assortment spans a wide range of genres, including rare pressings, deep cuts, jazz, avant‑garde, psych, rock, and international titles. Highlights feature Verlaine’s own copies of Television’s Marquee Moon and “Little Johnny Jewel,” Nico’s Chelsea Girl, the 13th Floor Elevators’ I Have Always Been Here Before, Albert Ayler’s Bells, and Slint’s Spiderland.
According to Cory Feierman of Academy Records, the collection reads more like an X‑ray of Verlaine’s eclectic taste than a mirror of his own work. “He approached buying with a spirit of adventure and discovery rather than hunting for personal grail items,” Feierman noted.
Since his passing, Verlaine’s final solo albums—Warm and Cool (1992), Around (2006), and Songs and Other Things (2006)—have been reissued by Real Gone Music. Earlier this year, his written and recorded archives, including unreleased music and unpublished poetry, were acquired by the New York Public Library.
