Tommaso Ciampa Seeks High-Profile Matches in AEW After Missing Opportunities in WWE

AEW star Tommaso Ciampa recently reflected on his decade-long WWE career, noting that he primarily focused on tag team matches rather than singles competition. Despite spending four years on the WWE main roster, Ciampa expressed frustration over limited interactions with major names like Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins during televised events.

During an interview with Stick to Sports, Ciampa outlined his primary objective in AEW: to secure strategic matchups that would accelerate his career progression. He specifically cited missed collaborations with elite performers, stating he feels these opportunities were overlooked during his time in WWE.

“My biggest goal, which I shared early with Tony (Khan), is to check off the checklist,” Ciampa explained. “Over the past ten years—particularly while on the main roster—I maintained a list of career objectives I never fulfilled. I worked with AJ Styles a couple of times on live events and once on TV, but never collaborated with Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, or Roman Reigns on television. This list is extensive, and these were genuine missed opportunities. As an athlete, you seek competition at the highest level to grow, and I felt I missed many of these chances in my last four years.”

Ciampa made his AEW debut in January 2026 by defeating Mark Briscoe for the TNT Championship in his first match with the company. He is now locked in a high-profile confrontation with Chris Jericho, culminating in a No Holds Barred match scheduled for Redemption this Sunday.
