The complete bracket for the women’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament was unveiled on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, revealing several unexpected participants. These included debuting Japanese stars Sareee and Hazuki, alongside reigning CMLL Women’s Champion Persephone.
However, immediate concerns arose regarding their health for the tournament, which is scheduled to begin next weekend. Sareee had announced on Thursday she was taking a month off for “neck maintenance,” while Persephone was sidelined to the extent that she had been withdrawn from Friday’s ROH Supercard of Honor.
During the Supercard of Honor media call on Thursday, AEW head Tony Khan addressed their status, confirming that both Sareee and Persephone are still expected to compete as planned. He clarified that their quarterfinal matches would likely occur in June rather than immediately, noting that the tournament finals are scheduled for late June at Forbidden Door. Bryan Alvarez reported on Thursday, following the call, that as of Wednesday night, all participants in the tournament were anticipated to compete.
Sareee is slated to face Skye Blue, while Persephone is set to go one-on-one with Hazuki of Stardom, with both matches positioned on opposite sides of the bracket. Persephone’s last appearance was in a tag team match on the April 22 Collision, after which she was indefinitely sidelined. She had initially been selected for the inaugural women’s Survival of the Fittest match at Supercard of Honor before her withdrawal.
