Korean Animation Stays Dominant with ‘Toy Story 5’ Leading Charts
The South Korean entertainment market recorded strong box office results over the weekend of June 26–28, with several major titles maintaining their positions amid competitive releases. Disney and Pixar’s animated blockbuster, ‘Toy Story 5,’ continued to hold the top spot, capturing substantial revenue and audience attention. While it didn’t follow closely behind, the thriller ‘The Eyes’ positioned itself strongly, securing second place for its first two weekends. Additionally, the Korean remake of the Spanish psychological film ‘Julia’s Eyes’ remained competitive, drawing considerable viewership and drawing praise from critics.
Other significant titles included ‘Colony,’ an action-horror film that swiftly climbed the charts with a third-place finish, and ‘Wild Sing,’ a 1990s retro music comedy that drafed in fourth place. The Asian market also saw varied performances, ranging from the cultural drama ‘Happyend’ to the drama ‘Unreachable,’ which added to its growing local presence. Notably, the concert documentary “Jeong Dong-won Fan Concert Film: The Road We Meet Again” rounded out the weekend with a commendable seventh-place showing.
