Top Rank’s Sparse DAZN Slots Reveal Only Part of Its Strategy

The company has promoted only two events on DAZN since its new broadcast agreement was announced five months ago, yet several of its fighters continue to appear on cards promoted by other promoters.

This early snapshot illustrates how Top Rank can operate within a platform that already hosts a large share of boxing’s talent.

According to Darshan Desai of Uncrowned, the arrangement is atypical. Raymond Muratalla fought Robson Conceição on a Golden Boy card earlier this month, while Top Rank athletes Albert Gonzalez and Samuel Contreras appeared on a Matchroom show in July. Additionally, Giovani Santillan is scheduled to face Abass Baraou on September 11 as the headliner of a ProBoxTV event.

Creating a full card involves more than simply placing a fighter on an existing lineup. Opponents must be negotiated, purses arranged, and the entire event built around the roster. The financial terms of Top Rank’s agreement with DAZN have not been disclosed.

Partnering with Golden Boy or Matchroom provides Top Rank with flexible alternatives. Both organizations maintain extensive relationships with DAZN, helping to bypass many of the traditional barriers that complicate cross‑promotional deals.

Top Rank still has strong incentives to stage its own events when a marquee fighter can anchor a card. The proposed welterweight title bout between Devin Haney and Keyshawn Davis, for example, would have provided a major date before Davis declined the WBO process.

Regardless of the reasons behind Top Rank’s limited DAZN schedule, its fighters are securing bouts without waiting for the promoter to build an entire show around them.
