Tottenham Hotspur have successfully reached an agreement on personal terms with Manchester United target Mateus Fernandes, setting the stage for a potential summer move.
Following West Ham United’s relegation from the Premier League, the Portuguese midfielder has been widely expected to seek a move away from the club. While Manchester United appeared to be leading the race for his signature earlier this month, they have hesitated to meet West Ham’s demanding £85m valuation.
Tottenham have now overtaken their rivals for the player’s signature, as they are prepared to move closer to the asking price. In contrast, Manchester United remain cautious, with reports suggesting they are unwilling to exceed a £60m offer for the former Southampton player.
As Roberto De Zerbi’s side works to finalize the details, Spurs are expected to submit a formal transfer bid in the near future.
This development represents a significant blow to the Red Devils, who had identified Fernandes as a priority signing to bolster their midfield depth this summer.
Although Fernandes was reportedly holding out for a move to Old Trafford, Tottenham have successfully convinced the player to reconsider his position over the last few days.
