Tottenham Hotspur is pursuing West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes for the upcoming summer transfer window, and personal terms are reportedly nearing completion.
The club has not yet entered formal negotiations with West Ham over the 21‑year‑old, and the outcome remains uncertain.
Although several Premier League sides have shown interest in Fernandes, he has indicated a willingness to move to Tottenham this summer.
Matteo Moretto wrote on X: “Tottenham is very close to reaching an agreement with Mateus Fernandes on the contract. There have still been no official negotiations with West Ham. Mateus Fernandes, also on the radar of other big clubs, is open to signing for Tottenham.”
The Portuguese international stood out for West Ham United and aims to remain in the Premier League; with the Hammers relegated, he is unlikely to follow them into the Championship.
A move to Tottenham would suit Fernandes well. The North London side seeks additional quality and depth in midfield, and the West Ham talent fits that need. His physical presence and technical ability would bolster the squad, offering control, composure and defensive cover. As a young player with considerable promise who has already adapted to Premier League life, he could contribute immediately and continue to develop under Tottenham’s coaching staff.
Securing Fernandes could represent a shrewd investment for Tottenham, and progress on personal terms would enhance their leverage in any forthcoming talks with West Ham.
West Ham would be reluctant to part with a key asset such as Fernandes, yet relegation has placed the club under pressure to offload players. Knowing that elite talents are unlikely to remain in the Championship, selling Fernandes for a substantial fee would be advantageous for the Hammers.
