Organizers have released the detailed street-by-street routes for the six British stages launching both the men’s and women’s 2027 Tour de France, marking the first time both races will begin in the same nation outside France in a single year.
The men’s three-week race opens on July 2 with a stage from Edinburgh to Carlisle, representing the northernmost start in Tour history. The peloton then travels from Keswick to Liverpool before crossing into Wales for a final Grand Départ stage from Welshpool to Cardiff on July 4.
The women’s Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift begins on July 30 with a stage linking Leeds and Manchester. The route then crosses the Pennines back into Yorkshire for a finish in Sheffield, concluding its British segment with a technical team time trial through central London on August 1.
The unprecedented “Super Grand Départ” collaboration was confirmed Thursday at a ceremony hosted by race organizers Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) at the Palais des Congrès in Paris. Men’s race director Christian Prudhomme highlighted the symbolic unity of the two events, noting the journey from the foot of Edinburgh Castle to the streets of London would deliver “thousands of thrills and emotions.”
While the Tour has visited the UK previously—in 1974, 1994, 2007, and for the 2014 Yorkshire Grand Départ—this marks the first occasion the men’s and women’s races have shared a host nation outside France during the same edition.
