Toyota is recalling nearly 31,000 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid vehicles due to a software issue that could cause the plug-in hybrid system to reduce power or shut down while driving at higher speeds, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall affects 30,978 vehicles, with NHTSA warning that the motor generator ECU may encounter an error leading to unexpected powertrain shutdown, which could increase the risk of a crash.

Toyota dealers will update the affected software free of charge, with owner notification letters expected to be mailed beginning Nov. 22, according to NHTSA. Toyota said affected owners will be notified by early December.
