Only one child rescued after fire breaks out in nursery at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital, Geo News reports.

A devastating fire erupted in the children’s ward at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital in Islamabad, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 newborns, local media reported.

Geo News, citing hospital officials, reported on Wednesday that the nursery at PIMS housed 16 newborns at the time of the incident.

Only one child was rescued from the burning ward.

According to officials cited by the outlet, the fire originated from an explosion of an air conditioner compressor in the nursery area.

The blaze has been successfully extinguished, and firefighting crews are currently conducting cooling operations at the scene, the report added.
