Two individuals, one of them a child, died during a soccer match in Wichita, Kansas, after a vehicle drove onto the field at Stryker soccer complex, police confirmed. Several others were injured.
Aaron Moses of the Wichita Police Department confirmed that the driver is in custody and that two juveniles were inside the vehicle at the time.
Police indicated that a child was killed at the scene and an adult died, though no identities or ages have been released pending notification of families. ‘This is a tragedy,’ Moses said. Those injured were transported to hospitals, but the severity of their injuries remains undetermined.
Moses said he was unaware of the vehicle’s speed and how it accessed the playing field.
Investigations are ongoing, and the city has suspended all events at the soccer complex pending further action.
A witness reported seeing a black pickup truck plow through the youth soccer fields, striking multiple people before coming to a stop 100–200 yards downfield, with dozens of emergency responders providing aid and CPR to the victims.
