Five decades after entering professional wrestling, the legendary Glamour Girls—Leilani Kai and Judy Martin—will be honored by the Cauliflower Alley Club at their 60th Annual Reunion.
“The Cauliflower Alley Club is proud to announce that The Glamour Girls, Leilani Kai and Judy Martin, will make history as the first women’s tag team to receive the CAC Tag Team Award at CAC 60,” the CAC announced in a press release.
The CAC Tag Team Award was established in 2015, with Demolition winning the inaugural honors. Seven other teams have been recognized since, most recently the Bushwackers last year.
Historian Roy Lucier provided additional background on the Glamour Girls and this prestigious award.
“This is amazing news,” Lucier wrote. “Leilani was originally scheduled to receive the Women’s award, however, she specifically requested Judy to be honored with her if her health improved (which eventually happened), making them the first women ever to receive the CAC Tag Team award.”
Kai shared on social media a month ago that Martin had been hospitalized, though no further information has been disclosed.
Both Kai and Martin began their training under the guidance of the Fabulous Moolah, with each debuting in the mid-1970s. Martin’s final match took place in 1999, while Kai continued performing until 2015. The pair gained prominence as the Glamour Girls in the World Wrestling Federation, where they were managed by Jimmy Hart and captured two WWF Women’s Tag Team Championships.
One of their most notable matches occurred during the original Royal Rumble broadcast on January 24, 1988, where they lost their tag team titles to the Jumping Bomb Angels (Noriyo Tateno & Itsuki Yamazaki) in a 15-minute, two-out-of-three falls bout, which received a *** rating from Dave Meltzer. The Glamour Girls reclaimed the championships in June of that year during an All Japan Women’s show; Meltzer rated this rematch even higher at ***3/4.
Those championship belts were retired in February 1989.
The Cauliflower Alley Club’s 60th Annual Reunion is scheduled for August 24 to 26 at the Plaza Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
