Apparently there’s a group called Treaty Oak Revival that makes country rock some describe as “Southwest emo,” and they performed at the MAGA‑associated Rock The Country Festival earlier this year. On Thursday (Sept. 24), the Texas band posted a video asking fans to stop hurling lawn chairs during their live shows.
“We’ve seen the videos and we’re not happy with what we’re seeing,” lead singer Sam Canty says. “We will say it directly: please stop throwing objects into the crowd or at the stage during ‘Boomtown.’ We support beer showers, crowd surfing, and having a good time, but please do not launch hard objects into the fucking crowd. It’s hurting people and we don’t condone it.”
“Boomtown” is the second track on their 2021 debut album No Vacancy, and they’re fortunate they haven’t been sued by Green Day, given the guitars resemble “Holiday” from American Idiot. Meanwhile, one concertgoer was reportedly hospitalized after the band’s Charlotte show on Sept. 19. It’s not just chairs—trash cans and beer cans have also been flung, with a beer can striking Canty in the face last September. Numerous videos of chair‑throwing at their gigs can be viewed below.
