The Trump administration announced that it has lifted export restrictions on two of Anthropic’s newest AI models following a national security review conducted in collaboration with the Commerce Department, as disclosed in statements released on Tuesday.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has revoked the export controls that previously applied to Anthropic’s Claude Mythos 5 and Claude Fable 5 models.
Lutnick said the evaluation of diversion risks for the two models justified withdrawing the controls outlined in a June 12 letter. He added that a license is no longer required for exporting, re-exporting, or transferring the Mythos or Fable models within the United States.
Anthropic confirmed receipt of official notification that the Commerce Department had lifted the restrictions.

It remains unclear what precise adjustments or additional assurances prompted federal officials to withdraw the restrictions after the June 12 determination.
