Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump engaged in an hour-long, highly candid phone call regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, according to the Kremlin.
This conversation followed a weekend visit by US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv, aimed at revitalizing stalled American efforts to bring an end to the hostilities.
Washington has been advocating for new direct negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.
Kyiv indicated that these negotiations could commence as early as this month, though the Kremlin stated on Monday that it was premature to discuss a specific venue or timeline.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters that during their Tuesday call, Putin and Trump “focused on the issue of a settlement in Ukraine”.
Ushakov noted that Trump called for a swift conclusion to the fighting, while Putin provided an “objective and detailed analysis” of the current frontline situation.
