President Trump announced Thursday that he intends to add a new walkway behind the Lincoln Memorial as part of his broader effort to reshape Washington.

“We’re going to call it the promenade,” Trump said in the Oval Office. “They want to call it the Trump Promenade, but I’m not sure about that. It will be beautiful, and it will extend the Lincoln Memorial all the way down to the Potomac.”

The National Park Service is already undertaking a $69 million renovation of the memorial, slated for completion in July, which will add an immersive museum beneath the structure and other visitor‑experience upgrades.

The proposed promenade follows other projects Trump has pursued since returning to office, including a gold‑leafed Oval Office, newly paved Rose Garden, a planned 250‑foot “Triumphal Arch,” and a National Garden of American Heroes featuring 250 statues.
