Trump Calls for Graham’s Sister to Succeed Him in Senate

Donald Trump urged South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster to appoint Lindsey Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone, as an interim senator to complete the remainder of his term, which ends in January.

In a social‑media post, Trump described the move as a “fabulous tribute” to his late friend, emphasizing Darline’s qualifications.

McMaster has scheduled a press conference for 4 p.m. ET to announce his selection and to honor the late senator’s legacy.

Darline Graham Nordone, a commissioner on the South Carolina Commission for the Blind, shared a close bond with her brother after their parents died when she was 13. He once called her a potential future administration member.

Graham praised his sister, saying she could serve as an outstanding representative of the United States.

When asked about her possible appointment, Senate Majority Leader John Thune said the idea “makes a lot of sense” and would extend Lindsey’s legacy.

Whoever McMaster appoints will serve until the term ends in early January. A Republican primary will be held on August 11 to select a permanent nominee, who will face Democrat Annie Andrews in the November midterms. South Carolina remains a strongly Republican state, and analysts expect the eventual candidate to be favored.
