US President Donald Trump on Tuesday publicly condemned the ongoing assault by Houthi forces against Saudi Arabia, per reports from Anadolu.
Speaking to reporters prior to departing for a campaign trip to Alaska, Trump declined to answer directly when asked whether Washington had decided to target Houthi positions.
“They’re behaving very badly,” he stated.
The President later echoed these remarks on his Truth Social platform, writing: “The Houthis are behaving very badly.”
“I thought they learned their lesson a year ago when we bombed the HELL out of them and, at their request, stopped,” he noted.
According to Trump, the group had remained quiet for an extended duration but has since resurfaced, likely under the direction of Iran, a country he labeled a “Failing Nation.” He further alleged the offensive is designed to manipulate oil prices, potentially before the upcoming US elections.
“Somebody should explain to them that I’m not running in the Elections, I’ve already won, IN A MASSIVE LANDSLIDE, but I’ll be there after the Elections, and I will never forget!” he claimed.
The comments underscore a wider escalation in Yemen involving government troops backed by the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthi rebels.
Yemeni government forces initiated the “Dawn of Yemen” campaign earlier this month with the objective of retaking areas held by the Houthis and reestablishing governmental authority.
The insurgents have held the capital, Sanaa, along with several provinces since 2014. A Saudi-led coalition entered the conflict in March 2015 to back the internationally recognized government, and the current surge in violence began in July following the collapse of a 2022 truce.
The rebel group has also targeted Saudi energy facilities and other sites, most recently an airport in Riyadh that left 12 people dead.
