Trump Declares Discussions With Zelenskiy and Netanyahu as Constructive

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that his recent engagements with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had yielded positive results.

Both leaders traveled to Washington, D.C., to attend a memorial service for the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a prominent supporter of Israel and Ukraine. Trump, communicating via Truth Social, confirmed the discussions took place but offered no specifics on the subjects covered, stating, “Had a very good meeting! Obviously, many important subjects were discussed.”

Ahead of the meeting, Trump had expressed frustration after details of Netanyahu’s planned talking points on Iran were leaked. However, Netanyahu described the encounter as “excellent.”

The diplomatic meeting unfolded against a backdrop of escalating conflict. The U.S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to respond with strikes on Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. bases. Subsequent U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran and Israeli operations in Lebanon have resulted in thousands of casualties and millions of displacements.

Furthermore, the Gaza ceasefire, initiated in October, has faced repeated violations. According to Gaza health officials, nearly 1,200 Palestinians, predominantly civilians, have been killed in Israeli attacks since then, while Israel reports four soldiers killed by militants during the same period.

Zelenskiy also met with Trump to discuss Ukraine’s plans for domestic production of Patriot missile interceptors and the potential revival of peace talks with Russia, which initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Trump posted, “Many things were discussed. The meeting went very well,” while Zelenskiy characterized the discussions as a “good meeting.”
