President Donald Trump affirmed on Wednesday that the military campaign in Iran was justified, despite significant political and economic repercussions following the Republican Party’s losses in the midterm elections. Speaking from the White House, Trump insisted that the United States had no alternative but to engage in military action to prevent Iran from developing nuclear capabilities, according to reports from Anadolu.
When queried about whether the conflict was worthwhile, Trump responded unequivocally: “I do. Yeah. I mean, well, you have no choice.” He emphasized that the situation with Iran required ongoing attention and action.
The discussion arose after Vice President JD Vance attributed part of the Republican electoral defeats to the war, suggesting that voter discontent over the conflict swayed former Trump supporters toward Democrats. Trump acknowledged this point, noting that the war had temporarily inflated gasoline prices, but firmly defended the strategic decision.
“Well, I think it’s largely true because it drove the gasoline up,” Trump stated, yet he maintained that the long-term necessity of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons outweighed short-term costs. He reiterated that if faced with the same decision, he would act identically, calling it “the only answer” to a critical security threat.
Vance had posted on social media platform X that “the reason we lost is the war,” a sentiment Trump described as “good.” Trump concluded by reflecting on the enthusiasm at his rallies, expressing that while the support was profound, it could not be effectively transferred to other candidates, potentially influencing the election outcomes.
