US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow for substantive discussions on ending the war in Ukraine, the White House confirmed.
The three-hour meeting at the Kremlin concluded without immediate announcements of a breakthrough, though Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov described the talks as “highly useful.” A White House official stated that the envoys discussed “substantive plans for next steps” toward ending the conflict, with further details to be announced in the coming weeks.
Following the Moscow meetings, Witkoff and Kushner are expected to travel to Kyiv on Sunday for continued discussions with Ukrainian leadership. Both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had agreed to a temporary pause in strikes on each other’s capitals during this diplomatic window.
President Trump’s business partner and former Middle East negotiator Steve Witkoff has been a key figure in recent diplomatic efforts, while Kushner has maintained a long-standing relationship with Putin from previous negotiations.
