A recently published report reveals that President Donald Trump’s eldest sons are positioned to benefit financially from a tungsten mining agreement negotiated with Kazakhstan, drawing criticism from Democratic lawmakers who characterize the taxpayer-funded project as an example of unchecked corruption.
According to reporting, the Trump administration secured an agreement with Kazakh leadership to grant American access to one of the world’s largest untapped tungsten reserves. The metal is essential for manufacturing missile warheads, fighter jets, computer chips, and other critical goods. The administration approved preliminary applications for up to $1.6 billion in federal financing for the American company involved, now called Kaz Resources, which plans construction in rural Kazakhstan last September.
Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and the sons of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick—Brandon and Kyle—stand to benefit from the project. Following negotiations, investors connected to Trump Tower joined forces to acquire a 20% stake in a corporate entity tied to the Kazakhstan venture through Dominari Securities, which is partially owned by the president’s two eldest sons.
The investigation also found that Lutnick’s sons assisted in raising $210 million for a related entity, potentially generating significant returns for Cantor Fitzgerald, the investment firm controlled by Brandon and Kyle Lutnick. At least 14 companies working on critical mining deals with the US government have connections to Cantor Fitzgerald or the Trump family, including Kaz Resources, Perpetua Resources, and USA Rare Earth.
This venture adds to broader concerns about the Trump family’s financial gains since returning to the White House. A Democratic-led House Oversight Committee tracker estimates that crypto-related projects have generated over $2.4 billion for the president and his family, with the presidents’ older sons playing key roles in those arrangements.
