US President Donald Trump emphasized American patriotism during his 250th anniversary address, declaring the nation a “crowning achievement” of human history. Despite delays caused by storms, Trump underscored his administration’s record of pride and unity.
He praised veterans from World War II, the Korean, and Vietnam wars, positioning their service as a defense against “communism” both abroad and domestically. Trump reiterated his stance that political opponents aligned with leftist ideologies posed a threat to the country’s values.
The speech included boasts about military operations in Iran and Venezuela, claiming Washington had “wiped out” Tehran’s military capabilities. However, the address was shorter than typical Trump speeches, lasting approximately 45 minutes.
Attendees, including Richard Sullivan from Virginia, noted the speech’s focus on historical legacy and veterans. A major fireworks display, touted as the world’s largest, followed the event.
Americans faced extreme heat during the celebrations, with temperatures reaching 103°F (39.4°C) in Washington. Weather disruptions caused evacuations and altered schedules for events in New York, Philadelphia, and Boston.
Despite the challenges, Trump insisted on proceeding with the speech, comparing it to historical sacrifices. His presence at the event highlighted political divisions, with counter-protesters advocating for “Reclaim America!” near the Capitol.
