According to Russia’s TASS news agency, Donald Trump informed Vladimir Putin that bringing an end to Russia’s war in Ukraine is essential and that he stands ready to assist.

In a Sunday phone conversation, Trump also told Putin that the United States is close to reaching a peace agreement with Iran amid the ongoing US‑Israel conflict, according to Yuri Ushakov, a adviser to Putin. The hour‑long call was described by Ushakov as “friendly and frank.”

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has persisted for over four years, since Russia’s February 2022 invasion. The war has now exceeded the duration of World War I, which lasted 1,566 days. While peace talks have largely stalled, senior members of the Trump administration have recently asserted that they seek to bring the Ukraine war to a swift conclusion, a point made by an official during a briefing at the recent G7 summit.
